Privacy Policy

RouteTrail ("the app", "we", "us") helps you discover famous food spots, heritage sites, and hidden gems along your route. This policy explains what data the app handles and why. We have written it to be plain and honest — we collect as little as possible.

The short version: You can use RouteTrail without an account. Your location is used on your device to alert you near saved spots and is never sold or shared for advertising. We do not run third-party ad or tracking networks.

1. Information you provide

Account (optional): If you create an account, we store your email address and a securely hashed password through our authentication provider (Supabase). You can use the app fully as a guest with no account.
Profile: A display name and, optionally, a home city you enter. If you are signed in, this is also stored against your account so it follows you to a new device.
Spot suggestions: If you submit a spot through "Suggest a Spot", we store what you typed and, if provided, your email, so our team can review it.

2. Location data

With your permission, the app uses your device location to measure how close you are to spots you have chosen to be alerted about, and to show nearby spots.
Proximity alerts can use background location so the app can notify you while it is minimised or your screen is off. You can revoke this any time in your device settings.
The proximity check runs on your device. We do not store your location history on our servers.
To draw routes and find places, the start and destination coordinates you enter are sent to Google Maps Platform (Directions, Geocoding and Places) to compute the route.

3. Payments

If you subscribe to RouteTrail Pro, payment is processed by Razorpay. We do not receive or store your full card details. We keep a record of your subscription status, plan, and payment reference so we can unlock Pro features for your account.

4. Data stored on your device

Your preferences — watchlist, language, alert settings, follows, and Pro status — are stored locally on your device. Clearing the app's data or uninstalling removes them.

5. What we do not do

We do not sell your personal data.
We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs. Any promotional banners in the free version are our own and are not personalised using your data.
We do not run analytics profiles that identify you.

6. Third-party services

The app relies on these providers, each with their own privacy policies:

Supabase — accounts, profile sync, and spot data hosting.
Google Maps Platform — routing, geocoding, and maps.
Razorpay — payment processing for Pro.

7. Notifications & voice

Proximity alerts are shown as on-device notifications and can be read aloud using your phone's built-in text-to-speech. No notification content is sent through an external push server.

8. Children

RouteTrail is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

9. Your rights & data deletion

You can edit your profile in the app at any time, and delete local data by clearing the app or uninstalling. To delete your account and any associated profile data from our servers, email support@routetrailapp.com and we will action it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date.
